Understanding your own body, how it can move, and its inherent strengths is crucial to learning any physical art including Wing Tsun. True knowledge can only come through actually experiencing this within yourself, but that does not mean that reading and developing your understanding outside of practice is pointless.
By studying how you are put together you give yourself a taste of what is to come, a framework to what you are trying to achieve and an idea of how things work. Correct Wing Tsun requires the use of the whole body and an 'elastic spring energy' as one way to generate stability and power.
